At the round table of the adoption community, there are no adoption topics considered taboo. An educated adoption community only stands to benefit from informed decisions that lead to fewer regrets and legal complications. It also leads to discussions that may inspire improvements in legislation, allowing the community to function at higher efficiency.
At its most basic level, the adoption community is populated by those who can be categorized into one of the three points of the adoption triad: adoptee, birth parent and adoptive parent or relative.
The needs, concerns and topics that each of these three communities may find relevant to them in the Child Welfare Information Gateway (CWIG), formerly the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse. CWIG is a government-run website full of resources helpful to everyone from the novice adopter to the expert adoption professional.
To keep up with adoption topics, adoption community members may consider subscribing from many of the free monthly adoption publications. These can provide insight into timely adoption topics, opinions and photolistings. There are also quite a few activist groups, such as the Human Rights Campaign, that are able to provide updates to very specific changes in the adoption community. In the example of the HRC, it would be regarding gay and lesbian adoption laws. Major news sources, unfortunately, aren't the most tuned in to the adoption community. However, every November, during National Adoption Month, things may pick up.
