Everyone is blogging these days as a way to share their unique experiences with the world. Some blogs take on broad topics like open adoption and others focus on succinct topics like adoption in a particular African country. While some may find blogs to be subjective and less trustworthy than a news article, most blogs can give insight and emotional support in a way that CNN and other news sources cannot. Not to mention, the adoption community is so complex and rapidly changing, that there is not regular coverage to be had on most topics. Blogs are a more articulate and less interactive version of an adoption forum.
If you plan to start an adoption blog, be it for large readerships or for family and friends to keep up with you, there are plenty of free blogging sites for you to get started. However, if you have a unique situation you think could be helpful to other adoptees, birth parents, adopters, couples, etc., you may consider being a guest blogger for an adoption website like Adoption.com. Adoption blogs are particularly helpful if your adoption experience is unique and there's relatively limited amounts of information on the web about what you and your family are going through.
But even as a solo blogger or community journalist, the blogging process is one of priceless catharsis.
